Nikhat Zareen is making headlines all over after she won gold in the Boxing World Championships on Thursday. The champion defeated Thailand's Jutamas Jitpong in the finals in Istanbul. It has to be noted that she is India’s first-ever representative in the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship. Described as the new Indian star in women's boxing, Zareen is from Telangana.
Congratulations are pouring in from all quarters. Telangana government Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that Telangana is proud of the world champion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Our boxers have made us proud! Congratulations to Nikhat Zareen for a fantastic Gold medal win at the Women's World Boxing Championship. I also congratulate Manisha Moun and Parveen Hooda for their Bronze medals in the same competition."
Jana Sena Party supremo Pawan Kalyan issued a statement describing her sporting exploits. The actor-politician sounded jubilant.
Former AP CM and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu said, "A daughter of Nizamabad, Nikhat has defied all odds to carve her own identity in the male-dominated sport. Her journey of perseverance is an inspiration for all. We are proud of her."
