The Modi government has declared the well-known Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associates unlawful with immediate effect. The ban will be in force for at least five years. The PFI has been accused of promoting radicalism and extremism.

Besides the PFI, its students wing Campus Front of India has also been banned. The latter has been leading the contentious protests over the "right" of Muslim girls to wear hijab in educational institutions, especially in Karnataka.

Both PFI and CFI have previously backed and led protests against the hijab ban in Karnataka and the CAA in late 2019 and early 2020.

Other associates of PFI that have been banned:

Rehab India Foundation(RIF)

All India Imams Council(AIIC)

National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO)

National Women’s

Front Junior Front

Empower India Foundation

Rehab Foundation in Kerala

The ban comes after a nationwide crackdown on PFI modules in many parts of India, including Andhra Pradesh.
