BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has often made it a point to deliver controversial statements and stay in light, and following his recent remark that the 7 convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case will never be released, he has made yet another controversial statement against becoming Chowkidar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that those voicing out and rising against corruption are the Chowkidars (Protectors/ Watchmen) of the nation, and began the Main Bhi Chowkidar campaign in BJP . He also changed his Twitter name to Chowkidar Narendra Modi, and following this all prominent leaders of the party changed their Twitter names adding prefix Chowkidar.
In a recent interview, BJP member Subramanian Swamy was asked as to why he did not change his name to Chowkidar Subramanian Swamy, and he replied "I belong to the Brahmin community, and hence I cannot become a chowkidar. Brahmins can't become Chowkidars. This is the reality. Chowkidars are those who do the orders given to them, and hence I can never become a Chowkidar". These statements from Subramanian Swamy has sparked off a new controversy referring to caste, degrading Chowkidars and opposing his own party movement.
