With violent protests taking place in parts of Assam over the Citizenship Amendment Bill, Narendra Modi today said that the unique Assamese culture will always be preserved.
"I want to assure my brothers and sisters of Assam that they have nothing to worry after the passing of #CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019. I want to assure them-no one can take away your rights, unique identity and beautiful culture. It will continue to flourish and grow," the Prime Minister today tweeted out.
He further said that the Central Government and himself are "totally committed to constitutionally safeguard the political, linguistic, cultural and land rights of the Assamese people as per the spirit of Clause 6".
Several North-Eastern States have been exempted from the Bill fearing protests like the current one in Assam. Many Assamese fear that Hindu immigrants from Bangladesh, who speak in Bangla, will now get citizenship of India and threaten the native culture of the Assamese.
