Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to arrive in Chennai today to attend the diamond jubilee celebrations of popular Tamil daily Dina Thanthi. Adequate security arrangements have already been put in place ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
A three-tier security cordon has been put in place from Chennai Airport to the Centenary Hall of the University of Madras, which would be the venue of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Dina Thanthi, the ‘common man’s newspaper’, which was launched in 1942 in Madurai by S.P. Adithanar.
The event is to commence at 11:00 a.m. Modi is to release a special souvenir on the occasion and would then present awards to Tamil laureates chosen for the occasion. Security has been strengthened along the route from Chennai Airport to University of Madras. Modi would travel by a chopper from the Airport to Adyar from where he would travel by road to reach the venue of the celebrations.
Besides the Prime Ministers, others taking part in the event include Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami, Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and ‘Dina Thanthi’ director C. Balasubramanian Adithan. Only those with entry-passes would be allowed to attend the function, it has been announced.
