The Narendra Modi government has announced a monthly pension scheme for farmers, small traders and shopkeepers who are between the age of 18 and 40. They will receive a certain specified amount on reaching the age of 60.
"In its efforts to provide universal social security, the Modi government has taken a landmark decision and approved a new scheme, which assures all shopkeepers, retail traders and self-employed persons a minimum monthly pension of Rs 3000 per month after the age of 60 years," Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister and BJP President, said.
Besides this, farmers have a piece of good news on the front of income support. 14.50 crore farmers in the country will receive Rs 6,000 per annum (in three equal, quarterly installments) under the PM-KISAN scheme. Rs 87,000 Cr has been earmarked for this flagship scheme that is believed to be one of the main reasons why farmers voted for BJP this time.
