In Tamil, 'Podiyan' is a word used to refer to the small, nondescript or ignorant. Director Manimaaran of 'Udhayam NH4' fame is set to redefine the word, with his next film. The one to act as the 'Podiyan' here is actor Jai, and the director himself has confirmed the project. Elucidating on choosing such a quirky title, Manimaaran says "The word 'Podiyan' is often misconstrued and concluded wrongly. People use the word to refer to someone, whose actual powers they are unaware of.

This project, when it hits the screens, will change this centuries long perspective, redefining the word 'Podiyan'. We are planning to start shooting for the project from January 2014." While Jai has been confirmed as the hero, further information on cast and crew awaits official confirmation.
