Missing cases in Telangana: Commissioner issues statement

There has been a spate of reports that more and more individuals are missing in Telangana. A Telugu-language daily has published a report asking what is happening to those many individuals.

In view of the panic that such reports are creating, Hyderabad's Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar has issued a clarification. "There have been widespread rumors on missing women and children. They are not true. The police take all possible steps to trace those who go missing. During the last year, 87% missing individuals were traced and efforts are on to trace the remaining. If anyone SPREAD RUMORS will face LEGAL ACTION," he said.

Earlier, IPS officer Swathi Lakra said that the Telangana police make the best use of Facial Recognition System to trace missing persons. Disappointment over examination results, love failure, financial reasons, family disputes, etc are the reason why many individuals run away. They are traced and handed over to their families.
