National award winning Vinod Kapri has tried his hand at direction with a shocking social satire titled 'Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho'. Little did he know that directing a film would make him land up with police protection. The film that is based on true incidents, narrates the story of a man who is falsely accused by a village strongman that he has raped a buffalo!
The powerful man of the village also gets the Khap panchayat to pass a verdict that he has to marry the victim, the buffalo called Miss Tanakpur! After the trailer of the film went viral, a Khap in Uttar Pradesh announced something incredibly ridiculous. They said they will give 51 Buffaloes to anyone who beheads the director Vinod Kapri!
Vinod says, "Actually I'm a little shocked and worried. Shocked about the death threat. But at the same time I'm relieved that what I wanted to show through my film has already even proven by such statements. I'm worried for my family not for myself."
He adds, "I'm seeking police protection because I'm here in mumbai and my family is in noida. In this busy schedule of releasing the film just 2 weeks later, I'm constantly thinking about my family at the back of my mind. So if they are protected I would be relieved."
Ask his if he will lodge a case against the khap ruling and he says, "No, I would not want to lodge any complaint against them. But yes I would request them to act sensibly, logically and responsibly. Such immature and illegal statements are not expected from khap panchayats ruled by experienced and elderly. I respect them and want to request to be patient and dont pass such immoral judgements without even seeing the film. "
'Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho' is being marketed and distributed by Fox Star Studios and is set to release on June 26.
