Ministers of the State Cabinet have been involved in supervising and monitoring flood relief work in Chennai and elsewhere in the aftermath of the heavy rains which lashed the city and the State during the past week.

Chief-minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami held consultation with his Ministerial colleagues and high-ranking officials of various Departments on Friday to chalk out strategies to initiate relief and rehabilitation measures after which he surveyed the flood scenario at Old Washermenpet, Mint and R.K. Nagar localities in Chennai.

Yesterday, Ministers were dispatched to supervise the arrangements at various places in the city. Ministers Thangamani, Saroja and Veeramani were at the Duraiswami Sub-Way linking T. Nagar with West Mambalam and inspected the work of pumping out flood-waters which had halted traffic in the sub-way.

Ministers Kamaraj and Benjamin were at Madhavaram where they supervised the flood scenario and the relief/rescue work attempted by civil officials and NGOs.  ‘Thermacoal’ fame Minister Sellur Raju was at R.K. Nagar, the constituency of the late chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa, for the same purpose. Fisheries Minister Jayakumar distributed food packets and other items to flood-affected people in Sathyamoorthy Nagar at Kodungaiyur.

Braving rains, Culture Minister Ma Foi Pandiarajan and Benjamin held consultations with officials and guided them on how to go about in providing relief to the people.  Rural Development Minister Velumani, who cancelled his visit to Australia (which was planned three months back), held consultation with officials of his Department on flood-relief work.
