The Congress party has raised the issue of depleting coal stocks in the country. There are fears of impending power cuts during the Summer.
In this regard, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has said that there is no need to worry about the coal stocks. He gave data to drive home his point. "Rahul Gandhi should know that coal companies have achieved the HIGHEST EVER production and offtake in 2021-22, with 30% growth from captive mines," the Minister said, adding that the Modi government has brought transparency to auctions. "We have applied robust policies in transforming the coal sector. In the last 8 years, 5538 MT of coal has been produced," the Minister tweeted.
He then gave recent data. "In April alone, coal production has further increased by 27% & supplies to thermal power stations by 14% over last year," Joshi added.
The Minister said that the Congress leader should also know that 72.5 MT coal stock is available at various sources like CIL, washeries, captive blocks, etc. "We are geared up to meet the requirements of rising power demand owing to strong economic growth," he added.
