He has coifed celebrity manes like those of rock star Mick Jagger and Hollywood actor Matt Damon, but British hair stylist Andrew Jose is a jealous man today - all because of Aishwarya Rai.
"My friend Dar, who is a big Indian hair stylist in London, did Aishwarya's hair for the opening night of 'Bride and Prejudice'. How I wish I could do it!" Jose told IANS here with a sigh.
"It's an honor and privilege I really missed out on. What a pity! To be honest, I was quite envious of Dar."
Jose is in the Indian capital in his role as global ambassador for German hair care major Schwarzkopf.
"This is part of our commitment to the Indian market," said Sekhar Sethu, general manager of Schwarzkopf India. "To bring in the best experts to train Indian stylists in new trends and ideas, this will help mature the market."
Jose said he was very impressed by the amount of experimentation that's happening in India. "On the roads, I see women with long lustrous hair, middle parted, which looks very nice and accentuates the beautiful Indian eyes.
"But there are also so many women who are open to all sorts of coloring and ideas. The Indian woman is getting bolder than ever before and is realizing what a different hairdo can do."
Predicting the season's hair color trends as copper-gold, blue berry and purple, Jose said hair styling alters personalities by defining different parts of the face.
"Indian haircuts are usually designed to highlight the face. But there are things you can do with hair that accentuates the jaw line or the neck - you can just about do anything."
Jose runs two salons in London and Prague and has been in the hair care business for more than 20 years. He opened his first salon in the cult shop Hyper-Hyper and remains an active member of the Fellowship of British Hairdresser's.
