Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni(w/c), Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Imran Tahir

Pitch Report, courtesy VVS Laxman: Looks like a great surface for batting. Even covering of grass, so it'll be a surface where the batsmen can easily hit through the line and play their shots. huge boundaries - 73 meters all around, so it'll be important to convert the ones into two - in addition to scoring fours and sixes

The first five overs for MI after winning the toss and opting to bat ,Were awesome as Quinton De Kock took charge immediately by smacking Deepak Chahar for 20 runs in the third over of the innings ,Featuring 3 sixes.

Yet ,As Thakur and Dhoni combo sent De Kock off for 29(17) featuring 4 sixes ,By virtue of a top edge ; Chahar got another over ,That is the last over of the power play and in response to his captain's tactic ,Chahar dismissed Rohit Sharma in the second ball of the over with a 119.8 Knuckle ball ,That was taken by Dhoni diving forward .Rohit couldnt score beyond 14(15) with just a four and a six . MI's powerplay score became 45/1 .

The momentum shifted towards CSK.Yet, Just when it looked like Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan were stitching a stand, Suryakumar inside-edged a straight delivery and got bowled by Tahir in the 12th over for 15 (17) with a four in his stint. In the very next over , A well-directed bouncer and a sharp running catch by Shardul Thakur confirmed Krunal Pandya's exit for a run a ball 7 .

In the 15th over, Ishan Kishan's labored knock of 23(26) 3x4, Was finally put to an end by Tahir as a googly and a top edge gave a chance for Raina to catch the ball at cover , Which he gleefully accepted. Two balls later, MI were 102/5 in exactly 15 overs .

A timely knock by the Birthday boy Pollard, Was the need of the hour for the Mumbai Indians and he did Exactly that.Hardik was given a life by Raina off Thakur as Raina misjudged a mistimed short by Hardik in the 18th over when he was on just four runs.
Luckily it didn't cost much as Hardik was dismissed in the very next over by Deepak Chahar via a yorker which trapped the batsman LBW Hardik missed the ball while batting and misread the DRS while taking it. Thus his innings was cut short to 16(10) with a four and a six.

Soon after Rahul Chahar and Mclanahan were shown the exit doors by dismissals featuring Faf (A catch at Mid off and then a runout with Bravo assisting Faf). Both the batsman didn't score and faced two balls each and got out in deliveries 18.4 an 19.4 respectively. Infact MM sacrificed his wicket to get Pollard on strike.

Amidst such chaos, Pollard was so clear in his vision to the extent that he didn't run in the first three deliveries of the last over.Yet, His 41 off 25 with 3 fours and as many sixes, Was enough to make the team reach 149/8 in the 20 overs. 2 boundaries were scored off the last two balls .

Chasing 150, CSK got off to a brisk start of off 33 in the first 3.5 overs and then last the dominant opener Faf Du Plessis in the very next ball , As the South African captain charged down to counter a quick wide dart by Krunal Pandya and got out stumped after swift cameo of 26 off 13 with 3 fours and a six .

For the next two overs, Watson took charge while Raina got lesser opportunities to strike, and eventually made sure that CSK crossed 50 run mark at the end of the powerplay. After 6 overs, CSK's score was 53/1.

In the third ball of the seventh over, On-field umpire gave Raina out. Yet, in DRS, The ultra edge showed that no part of Raina's bat or gloves, Was involved before that cracking bouncer by McClanahan was collected by keeper De Kock.

In the fourth ball of the ninth over, Watson's top edge was misjudged by Malinga and he didn't even get a hand to it.

Yet, Soon after, In the first ball of the 9th over, Rahul Chahar's straight delivery dismissed Raina LBW and a review was wasted despite the fact that even the non-striker wasn't fully confident about it. It was yet another hard day for Raina with the bat as he disappeared for 8 off 14. At that time CSK were 70/2

7 balls later, Rayudu was dismissed by Bumrah for 1(4) as De Kock took the catch, which arrived a mistimed pull, comfortably.Cai was reduced to 72/3 in 10.3 overs

In the third ball of the 13th over, Dhoni was given out after a long delay with a lot of confusing angles, Nigel Llong gave the decision for a dismissal that became so because of an overthrow and Dhoni tried to pinch one more run. Eventually, he was dismissed for 2(8) and CSK were 82/4.

In the very next over ,Rahul Chahar dropped watson when the Queenslander was at 42 off 42.

Rahul Chahar's outstanding spell of 4-0-14-1 ,came to an end with this over .

When CSK were 88 /4 in fifteen overs, Bravo and Watson targetted Malinga's over and gathered 20 runs off it with Watson making 13 off it with three consecutive fours.

In the first ball of the next over by Bumrah, Rahul Chahar dropped Watson again. Yet, Just 4 runs were scored off that over. This meant 38 runs were required in the last 3 overs.

As Bravo gave Watson the strike by taking a single off Krunal's 18th over Watson smashed three consecutive sixes off the next three balls, Then left one out and took a single off the last ball to keep strike.

18 was needed off 12.

Bumrah came back to bowl the 19th over. Watson gave the strike to Bravo.Yet, Bravo edged the ball to QDK in an attempt to play a quick bouncer and perished for 15 off 15

Ravindra Jadeja came in and got two off the first ball he faced. The fourth ball was a dot. Jadeja scampered through to two off the next ball. The last ball of the over, Went through the keeper and reached the boundary rope. Four byes .

Watson took a single off Malinga's first ball! Jadeja took a quick single off the next. Watson took a couple of the next But failed in another attempt to make two and the run out was execured by Pandya -QDK combo .

Watson's 80 off 59 with 8 fours and four sixes, came to an end.
Four runs were needed for the last two .

Shardul Thakur made two off his first ball.

When two runs were needed of the last ball, Malinga's Yorker trapped Thakur LBW and eventually gave yet another one-run victory to MI in the final of the IPL ,After the one against RPSG in 2017 at Hyderabad .
