In an exclusive interview with Indiaglitz, Mrs. Muthulakshmi, the wife of the late comedian actor Suruli Rajan, shared several details about her husband.
She said:
'He never preferred hot food. Most of the time, he would consume only cold food. Suddenly, he fell ill, and we admitted him to a private hospital.
He had an ulcer in his stomach. Later, we found out that he also had hemorrhoids. He was under treatment in the hospital.
At that time, the newspapers falsely reported that he had ruined his health by drinking excessively. I didn't pay attention to any of that.
During that period, he needed a particular medicine. It was not available in India, and it was brought from Singapore on the orders of the then Chief Minister M.G.R. When that medicine was administered, he passed away.
A few days later, the doctor who treated him revealed that actor Suruli Rajan had passed away due to jaundice. The doctor mentioned that some people might not even realize they have the disease. Only then did I understand that he had died from jaundice because, at that time, I didn't understand much.
It is unnecessary to say now that my husband died due to alcoholism.
Around 15 years after his death, a film producer named Somanathan came and said that he owed my husband a salary and gave me 2500 rupees. Even in death, he gave like the legendary Seethakathi.
In today's comedy, I really like Vadivelu. The moment I think of him, I feel like laughing,' said the late actor Suruli Rajan's wife, sharing her memories with Indiaglitz viewers."
