#MeToo: Seven musicians shown the door
Send us your feedback to audioarticles@vaarta.com
The 'Me Too' movement has resulted in a Union Minister losing his job and a couple of Bollywood personalities losing their projects. While nobody has had to pay any price in the southern film industries, in the Carnatic music world, though, heads have rolled.
Reportedly, the Madras Music Academy has ousted seven musicians who were scheduled to perform at the Academy's much-awaited concert in December. N Ravikiran, OS Thyagarajan, Srimushnam V Raja Rao, Nagai Sriram, Mannargudi A Easwaran, R Ramesh and Thiruvarur Vaidyanathan are the ones.
These seven are facing sexual misconduct allegations. It's stunning that those widely revered for their rare knowledge are suspected to be sexual harassers. Nothing, of course, beats the allegations against Kollywood's iconic lyricist and poet Varaimuthu.
