"The Devil Wears Prada," David Frankel's 2006 hit, has fans waiting for a sequel for a long time. This is especially true now that the group reunited at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt talked about acting with each other. Puck now notes that a sequel is under development and Meryl Streep will be returning as the venerable Miranda Priestly. Originally author of the original movie, Aline Brosh McKenna is in negotiations to script the follow-up.

The plot of the sequel is supposed to center Miranda, the editor of Runway, the top fashion magazine, as she negotiates the difficulties of the failing conventional print company. She will apparently run afoul of Emily Charlton, her former assistant, portrayed by Emily Blunt, a top executive at a luxury business. Miranda requires advertising money, but despite their turbulent past, Emily will assist her.

Given the storyline, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt most certainly will be reprising their roles. Whether Anne Hathaway will resurface as Andrea Sachs, Miranda's former aide who left at the end of the previous movie, is yet unknown, though.

Based on Lauren Weisberger's book, "The Devil Wears Prada" shows a young woman's difficult experience working for a fashion magazine, with Miranda Priestly apparently fashioned by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Along with an Oscar nomination, the movie brought in Meryl Streep a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy and grossed $326.7 million worldwide. Additionally nominated for an Academy Award was costume designer Patricia Field.

Originally made by 20th Century Fox, Disney is developing the follow-up after buying Fox in 2019. Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly and original music by Elton John have also been included into a stage musical version of the narrative.
