'Mersal' roars, pips even 'Kabali'

Thalapathy Vijay's 'Mersal' (Tamil) has taken an earth-shattering opening on the festival Diwali day on Wednesday and the box office receipts are overwhelming and career best for the mass hero.
Mersal's first day collections in Tamil Nadu is around Rs. 23 crores, the highest ever beating the record held by 'Kabali' which grossed 20 Crores among Kollywood movies.
Chennai City took 1.52 Crores which is also the highest and Chengalput has brought in 6 Crores, Coimbatore - 3.75 Crores, North and South Arcot 3.2 Crores and the rest from the remaining territories.
As for other states, Kerala has brought in a magnificent 6.1 Crores, Karnataka around 4 Crores and the rest of India 1.35 Crores.
The World Wide First day collections (in gross terms) is estimated to be Rs. 45 plus crores.
The film will be released next week in Telugu as 'Adirindhi'.
