Mercury teaser is spine chillingly

Director Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Mercury’ teaser has hit the web and it has all the reasons to send shivers down your spine. With no dialogues (there are mild grunts in the teaser), Karthik has given us a taste of what he sets out to do in the feature. We’ve loved his raw dialogues in ‘Iraivi’ and ‘Jigarthanda’, but going by the teaser of ‘Mercury’ – we can expect some powerful storytelling sans vocal commotion.

Starting off with a deserted place with a ‘No Trespassing’ board, we get a hint of what the story may revolve around. The teaser straight out gives a strong plot hint if you had noticed the ‘In memory of the 84 people died in this town due to Mercury posioning’. Apart from the subject of mercury posoining, the supernatural element is just too strong to ignore. With Prabhu Deva’s slow and laborious schlepping, and his ‘zombie’ like energy- the teaser is an excellent appetiser to look forward to how the movie will be panned out.

In addition to it, the visuals of the teaser are also unhurried and flowing adding to its intensity. The teaser is a bit too much ‘greeny’, the tint helping us accomodate to a symbolic element which we might experience in the feature.   We also see four men and a lady alongside a car staring wide out open into the sky above (did they get stranded in this god-forsaken deserted place to face the wrath of ‘Prabhu Deva’?)

The film’s ensemble cast comprises of Prabhu Deva, Sananth, Indhuja, Deepak Paramesh, Shashank Purushothaman, Anish Padmanabhan. The music score for the film has been scomposed by Santhosh Narayanan. Thirunakkarasu has cranked the camera and Vivek has taken care of the cuts for the movie. Karthik Subbaraj has written and directed the movie which is being bankrolled by Stone Bench Films banner.
