The Mental Healthcare bill which decriminalizes suicide and bans the use of shock therapy on children has been passed unanimously in the Lok Sabha. People who resort to extreme steps such as suicide are under 'severe depression', and trying them against the law wouldn't just be irrational, but also inhumane.

Those who attempt suicide and people with suicidal tendency will be provided aid and rehabilitation. The bill also empowers mentally ill patients to choose their mode of treatment, and also gives an option of advance directive where a person can decide how he/she prefers to be treated should they fall mentally ill.
