Unlike several other actreses in Bollywood, Taapsee Pannu is known to portray strong and significant characters in her films and as of now, she is all set to appear as cricketer Mithali Raj in the biographical drama 'Shabaash Mithu'. In a recent conversation with PTI, Taapsee shared how female cricketers and female actors in our country have gone through a similar struggle of finding their own identity separate from their male counterparts.
She stated, “In our country there are two religions – cricket and films. If you call yourself a cricket loving nation then you should love women’s cricket equally, you are not just men’s cricket loving nation. The cricket should matter and not the gender."
Taapsee continued, "Same way, the gender of the protagonist shouldn’t matter. It should be about how the film is. You do pre-booking of a movie if it is a male protagonist but wait for reviews for a female protagonist. That is where I connected to her."
Directed by Srijit Mukherji, 'Shabaash Mithu' is set to release theatrically on 15th of July.
