Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle have teamed with Netflix to create a film production project. The royal bought the rights to the bestselling novel Meet Me At The Lake by Carley Fortune for $3 million, Variety reported Tuesday. That represents a new swing in the couple’s professional and personal arc. That includes documentary filmmaking as well as book publishing projects.
The plot of the book resonates with aspects of their own lives, revolving around a couple who meet in their thirties and tackle issues like childhood traumas, mental health, and post-natal depression. The location holds significance as it is set near Toronto, the place where Meghan lived during her time working on the show Suits, when her connection with Harry started.
Despite the ongoing strike by authors and performers in Hollywood, the couple is still determined to bring these themes to screen. This project is part of their lucrative $100 million contract with Netflix.
If successful, the film could strengthen their relationship with Netflix if rumours of threats against their partnership are true. Their previous documentary series about their struggles to live a royal life gained immense popularity.
With their foray into film production, Meghan and Harry have taken the path of Hollywood by creating meaningful stories that speak to their experience and values.
