The mega heroes of Tollywood have primarily focused on the Telugu film industry, with limited forays into Bollywood. Megastar Chiranjeevi ventured into Hindi cinema with the movie Pratibandh in 1990, a remake of Rajashekhar's Ankusam, which was a hit. Another success was the Hindi remake of Gang Leader titled Aaj Ka Gunda Raj. However, the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Gentleman, featuring Chiranjeevi, received a lukewarm response. Subsequently, Chiranjeevi did not pursue further projects in Bollywood.
Following his re-entry into films from politics, Chiranjeevi's Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy released in Pan Indian languages but failed to make a significant impact in Hindi. Ram Charan, another mega hero, faced a setback with his Hindi movie Zanjeer, which was a disaster and damaged his image. However, his recent success with RRR has boosted his brand image in Bollywood. Ram Charan is now venturing into Bollywood as a solo lead with Game Changer, aiming for a pan-India audience.
Power Star Pawan Kalyan's Sardar Gabbar Singh also did not perform well in Hindi. He is now trying his luck again with OG, directed by Sujith. Varun Tej's Operation Valentine in Hindi did not connect with the audience, but he is gearing up for another pan-India attempt with Matka, featuring three different looks.
Icon Star Allu Arjun scored a blockbuster with Pushpa The Rise for which he also won the national award for the best actor for his performance. All are now waiting for the film's sequel Pushpa The Rule.
Megastar Chiranjeevi is working on Vishwambhara, a fantasy adventure that aims to connect with the North Indian audience. Directed by Vashishtha, the film is slated for a Pan India release next Sankranti. The success of these projects will determine the mega heroes' fortunes in Bollywood. Mega fans are keen that their heroes films turn out to be blockbusters across the country and they will break the Bollywood bastion.
