Famous movies from Hollywood’s ‘I,Robot’ to Shankar’s ‘Endhiran’ have given us a taste of what the world would be like if humanoids living in tandem with human beings was a reality.
Sophia, a humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong’s Hanson Robotics created history by becoming the first robot to be recognised as a legal citizen. The Saudi Arabian government, in a move to promote the country as a hub for artificial intelligence granted citizenship to the robot.
Speaking onstage to the gathering, the robot stated that it felt proud and honoured for the unique distinction. “This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognised with a citizenship,” Sophia said.
The humanoid has given multiple interviews to the media, sang in a concert and even has appeared in the cover of a top fashion magazine. The humanoid is also wired with complex motors and gears that makes it to emote a wide range of facial expressions.
