D. Sivan, an elderly postman from Tamil Nadu, who retired from his job after 30 years of service, is being hailed a hero on social media for his dedication to his job. The good samaritan who walked 15 km every day through thick forests to deliver letters in inaccessible areas in Coonoor, retired last week. The 66-year-old postman has been praised by netizens on Twitter after an IAS officer shared his story online.
Commemorating Sivan's dedicated work and retirement IAS officer Supriya Sahu wrote, "Postman D Sivan walked 15 kms everyday through thick forests to deliver mail in inaccessible areas in Coonoor. Chased by wild elephants, bears, gaurs, crossing slippery streams and waterfalls he did his duty with utmost dedication for 30 years till he retired last week."
Soon the post went viral on social media and netizens are applauding his dedication. As per the report in The Hindu in 2016, the postman was paid just Rs 12,000 per month for his work. Well, the good samaritan is now getting all the recognition that he deserves.
