Media Baron, Eenadu Group Chairman Ramoji Rao no more

Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, the visionary media baron and founder of the Ramoji Group of Companies, passed away in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 87.

Rao, who was hospitalized on June 5th after experiencing difficulty breathing, was admitted to a Star hospital at Nanakramguda in Hyderabad.  Doctors performed tests and recommended a stent procedure.  Following the procedure, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away after two days of critical illness at 4:50 am.

Born into a humble farming family in Pedaparupudi village, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, on November 16, 1936, Ramoji Rao’s journey from farmer’s son to media magnate is a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and visionary thinking. He established Ramoji Film City, the world’s largest film studio and theme park, making him a legend in the film industry.

His business acumen extended beyond filmmaking, encompassing a diverse range of enterprises. He founded Margadarsi Chit Fund, Eenadu Newspaper, ETV Network, Ramadevi Public School, Priya Foods, Kalanjali, Ushakiran Movies, Mayuri Film Distributors, and Dolphin Group of Hotels.  These ventures provided employment for countless individuals, contributing significantly to the economic development of Hyderabad and the region.

Ramoji Rao’s influence in Telugu politics was undeniable, with many state and national leaders seeking his counsel on significant matters.  In recognition of his immeasurable contributions to journalism, literature, cinema, and education, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, in 2016.

Ramoji Rao’s foresight and entrepreneurial drive were evident in his ability to anticipate trends and develop businesses that catered to evolving needs.  His ventures, from Priya Pachals to ETV Bharat, were meticulously planned and executed, leaving an indelible mark on the Indian media landscape.

Ramoji Rao’s passing leaves a void in the Indian media landscape.  His pioneering spirit, unwavering dedication to his craft, and remarkable ability to create enduring businesses will continue to inspire generations to come.
