After the lockdown relaxations were announced in the third phase of the nationwide lockdown, on the second day of lockdown 3, the Liquor sales in Karnataka has reached a record high for a single day as liquor worth Rs 197 crore was sold yesterday while it was Rs 45 crores on Monday.

The previous record sales in Karnataka was Rs 170 crore which was recorded on December 28, 2019, coinciding with the Christmas - New year festivities. Yesterday the sales had a huge spike of 250% with 43.4 lakh litres sold, while it was 12.4 lakh litres on Monday.

It has been revealed by the excise department that the increase in sales of liquor and the huge collections are due to the introduction of 6% additional excise duty and twice the number of liquor shops opened yesterday compared to the number of shops opened on Monday.
