Today, a brand-new superhero entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the studio's new web series 'Ms Marvel' debuted on Disney Plus Hotstar. The show narrates the journey of a Pakistani-American high schooler who turns into a superhero. Ms Marvel is the first female, south Asian and Muslim superhero in the MCU.
The latest trending news is that the first episode of Ms Marvel, which premiered today, featured the Tamil movie song 'Oh Nanba' from Superstar Rajinikanth starrer 'Lingaa'. The song, recited by late singer SP Balasubrahmanyam and composed by AR Rahman, was played when the title card of the series kicked in. Indian fans are happy to see these references in an universal show.
The six-episode series is designed to set up the upcoming movie The Marvels, in which Ms Marvel will unite on the big screen with Captain Marvel. Other notable Indian influences on the Marvel show’s soundtrack are Ritviz’s sage, Raja Kumari’s 'Goddess', Angus Campbell and Kully Bhumra’s 'Disco Gully' and Ishq Bector’s 'Daaku Daddy'.
Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan is the first female Muslim actor in the Marvel Cinematic universe. Apart from her, Ms Marvel casts an array of Asian and American actors including Mohan Kapur, Nimra Bucha, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, and Travina Springer. It also stars Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
