Filmmaker Ryan Coogler of 'Black Panther' fame, was briefly detained by Atlanta police after the director was mistaken for a robber while he attempted to withdraw a large sum of his money at the Bank of America.

The 35-year-old director, who was wearing a hat, sunglasses and a COVID face mask, went to the counter and handed the teller a withdrawal slip with a note written on the back that reportedly read, "I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I'd like to be discreet."

The teller, however, misinterpreted the situation as an attempted robbery when the amount of the transaction triggered an alarm on the banking system. The teller then informed her boss and together they called the police.

The Atlanta police report states that the 35-year-old filmmaker was detained and handcuffed after he went to Bank of America to make a transaction on January 7. His colleagues were also detained in the back of a police vehicle. After verifying Coogler's identity and his Bank of America account, the officers released him and his associates.

The police report also said that Coogler requested the name and badge numbers of all the officers. Bank of America, in a statement, told, "We deeply regret that this incident occurred. Coogler's representative told on his behalf, " "This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on."

On the work front, Coogler was filming the sequel to the Marvel superhero film, 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', in Atlanta. The film is a sequel to Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame. It is the thirtieth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the seventh film of Phase Four. The film is set to be released on November 11, 2022.
