It's official. Marvel has cast Tom Holland for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-man in their ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Nineteen year old Tom Holland is well-recognized for his performance as the lead in 'Billy Elliot The Musical' at the Victoria Palace in London and in the movie Ewan McGregor starrer 'The Impossible'.
Holland will be the third actor to portray Spider-Man on the big screen after Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
In an interview to Marvel.com, Sony Executive Amy Pascal said, "Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we`ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man`s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Early this year in February, Marvel and Sony Pictures had made an agreement to work together on bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As part of the deal, Spider-Man will be making his debut in 'Captain America: Civil War'. Early reports coming in from the Marvel camp suggest that Spider-Man will only have a cameo in the upcoming Captain America movie.
It must also be noted that Jon Watts has been handpicked by Marvel to helm the full length solo Spider-man film scheduled for release in 2017. Watts's works include the 2014 horror film 'Clown' and the upcoming indie thriller 'Cop Car', which made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
'Captain America: Civil War' is scheduled to hit screens on May 6, 2016 and the untitled solo 'Spider-Man' film on July 28, 2017.
