The world’s most popular social media website Facebook was severly condemned after news hit that political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica improperly accumulated user data which were later used to aid US president Trump’s election campaign. With regards to this, even the co-founder of WhatsApp Brian Acton took to his social page asking people to delete Facebook.
While users are voicing out their condemnation on Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has come out with an explanation. Zuckerberg in an interview has stated that facebook is committed to maintaining the integrity of elections, including those conducted in India. It is also notable that Mark admitted to countries like Russia meddle in US elections.
Mark Zuckerberg also admitted to the fact that this was probably the company's biggest ever mistake made. Zuckerberg also noted that his company is taking extensive effort such as using Artificial Intelligence to identity and avert such incidences in the future.
Zuckeberg had also vouched that developers who do not agree to an audit will be banned in addition to the fact that user data will be available to developers not more than three months if the user is inactive in the app. This could be avoided if the developer signs a contract with Facebook and get its approval.
