The Deep Fakes technology has started taking the internet by storm and its dark side is causing some serious concerns for not only common users but celebrities and leaders as well. The technology, for example, can make former US President Barack Obama speak something he never would using video footage and also getting voice actors to dub. Avengers actress Scarlett Johannsen has been the victim of deep fakes by which her body has been morphed onto that of a pornstar and leaked online.
Omer Ben-Ami cofounder of an Israeli startup called Canny AI, has commissioned a video of Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg saying ""Imagine this for a second: One man, with total control of billions of people's stolen data, all their secrets, their lives, their futures.". Footage has been taken form a 2017 video and artificial intelligence software has been used to manipulate Zuckerberg's face to match the statement spoken by a voice artist.
The video was posted so as to bring awareness to facebook which carries deep fake videos. Earlier FB had refused to take down a video of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that had deep fakes making it look like she slurs words. It remains to be seen what the social media giant would do now that its owner himself has been deep faked.
