Marimuthu worked as an assistant director in two films 'Karnan' and 'Maamannan' directed by Mari Selvaraj. Hailing from Thoothukudi, he came to Chennai with dreams to become a famous director in Tamil cinema and joined as an assistant director to Mari Selvaraj.
After the success of 'Karnan' and 'Mamannan' Marimuthu was gearing up to direct a film soon. In this situation, he had recently gone to his native town and is said to have experienced shortness of breath. He was rushed to the hospital lost his life on the way with what was said to be a mild heart attack.
The doctors who examined him reportedly concluded that due to excessive smoking, he suffered from shortness of breath and the eventual heart attack. It is noteworthy that Marimuthu, who had a dream of somehow winning in cinema, was only 30 years old. His death has left the 'Mamannan' crew and the film industry in deep grief.
