One of Kollywood's most renowned and prominent producers, Kalaipuli S Thanu, has bagged the rights of Malayalam star Mohanlal's upcoming epic historical period film, Maraikkayar (Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham in Malayalam), and will be releasing the Tamil dubbed version of the film under his V Creations banner. The movie is directed and co-written by Priyadarshan.

Following his most recent blockbuster venture, Asuran, Kalaipuli S Thanu has joined hands with Priyadarshan 25 years after their maiden collaboration 'Siraichalai', that was critically acclaimed. With a budget of Rs. 100 crore, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is reportedly the most expensive Malayalam film ever made. Regarding the movie, Mohanlal had earlier mentioned in an interview with a news agency, "The movie is something that all of us can be proud of, as it's well made. It tells the story of Kunjali Markkar, who is considered as India's first naval commander and we are dedicating the film to the Indian Navy. The making is a level higher than usual Malayalam films and it has made use of all the available technical facilities."

Produced by by Antony Perumbavoor and Santhosh T. Kuruvilla, the epic film also features Suneil Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Siddique, Keerthy Suresh and Ashok Selvan in pivotal roles. The movie is slated to release worldwide on March 26, 2020.
