For the boys...
Friday, August 12, 2011 • Tamil Comments

Yuvan Shankar Raja and Venkat Prabhu. They already have hattrick in hand ('Chennai 600028', 'Saroja' and 'Goa'). And when they come together for the fourth time, the output is actually a 'sixer'. As the huge responsibility of working for 'Thala' Ajith's 50th film has apparently made them to strive overtime, to make 'Mankatha' their best album till date.

Right from the CD cover to the songs, everything makes us feel that we are a part of the 'Mankatha' game. Since there is still some time left for that, let's have a look at the songs, from this film that has been produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri's Cloud Nine Movies.

Vilayadu Mankatha...Listen here

Anitha, Premgi Amaren, Ranjith, Suchitra, Yuvan Shankar Raja and others.

The one that is already on the lips of every Ajith fan. Hugely popular right from the day one it was released as a 'single', the number sung by a long list of singers including Yuvan Shankar Raja sets the mood in an effective way. Right from the lyrics to the tune to the orchestration to the way it has been crooned, 'Vilayadu Mankatha...' says loud that the game has begun. There is an extended dance mix too as you go down the album. Are you game for it?

Nee Naan...Listen here

SP Charan, Bhavatharini

Like father, like son. If it is S P Balasubramanyam for maestro Ilayaraja, it is SP Charan for the latter's junior, Yuvan Shankar Raja. A soothing melodious track which sees Charan and Bhavatharini giving their best, 'Nee Naan...' will stay long in the memory of music lovers. Lyrics by Niranjan Bharathi, great grandson of Mahakavi Bharathiar, are good. Yuvan once again proves that he is equally good at soft songs too.

Machi Open The Bottle...Listen here

Haricharan, Mano, Naveen, Premgi Amaran, Tippu

It would have been a syntax error if there is no party song in a film from Venkat Prabhu & Co. So here comes 'Machi Open the Bottle...', which, as the opening line suggests, is full of spirit. A mass kuthu number mixed with a folk genre, it's a different attempt from Yuvan, that would soon find its way to party circuits. A group of young singers, including 'party specialist' Premgi, are there to entertain you.

Vaada Bin Laada...Listen here

Krish, Suchitra

They are singers, but their spouses are actors. We are talking about Krish and Suchitra, who know many a thing about cinema and who have rendered this song with utmost gusto and energy. Vaali's 'youthful' lines blend well with Yuvan's tune, making the song an entertaning romantic number. Techno beats of Yuvan is the highlight of the song, which invites a Bin Laden kind of 'active' man to bed.

Nanbane...Listen here

Madhushree, Yuvan Shankar Raja

There is only little difference between friendship and love, like how there is only a minute gap between the good and bad. Precisely that's the backdrop of this song, which could become one of the best melodies of the year. Madhushree, in the company of Yuvan Shankar Raja, expresses the feelings of a girl well. Once again a sweet and soft song from Yuvan.

Balle Lakka...Listen here

Karthik, Vijay Yesudas, Anusha Dhayanidhi

The song has two highlights. It was penned by veteran Gangai Amaran (Venkat Prabhu's father and Yuvan's uncle) and marks the entry of Anusha, producer Dhayanidhi Alagiri's wife, as a singer. Though the first word is inspired from Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Sivaji', the remaining things are totally different and you have to appreciate Gangai Amaran, Yuvan, Karthik, Vijay Yesudas and Anusha for it. Anusha has all the qualities to become a top singer.

Mankatha Theme...Listen here

Yuvan's theme music for 'Billa' is still remembered. He aptly repeats the magic in 'Mankatha' too. Though this instrumental piece reminds 'Vilayadu Mankatha...', it has enough qualities to make Ajith fans scream in joy. Chances are heavy for this 'Mankatha' theme to top the most downloaded list of mobile operators.

'Mankatha' album is recommended for Ajith and Yuvan fans. And it is highly recommended for others too, for it is a mixed bag of interesting and innovative music...
