It is a known fact that, post the massive success of his multi-starrer biggie Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, director Maniratnam is all set to direct yet another big budget multi-starrer of epic proportions, the film adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's classic novel Ponniyin Selvan.

There are widespread reports on the cast of the movie, with Chiyaan Vikram playing Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi playing Arulmozhi Varman, Keerthy Suresh playing Kundhavai, Mohan  Babu as Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, Aishwarya Rai as Nandhini Devi and Amitabh Bachchan as Sundara Chozhar.

Now, the latest update is that, since the movie is a grand historical revolving around the Cholas. the visualization and pre production activities will progress with extensive research involved, and it has been revealed that the movie will begin shooting by December this year.
