Director Maniratnam, who had last directed the multistarrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam is getting ready to direct his dream project, the most expected period drama Ponniyin Selvan, which will be based on the famous novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy.

While this movie is believed to begin shooting from December, there have been numerous speculations on the cast and that Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Keerthy Suresh, Aishwarya Rai, Amala Paul, Prabhu, Trisha might be part of the project. Now here's an interesting update on the cast.

Actor Ashwin, known for acting in Thala Ajith's Mankatha, Vijay Sethupathi's Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai Balakumara has joined Ponniyin Selvan's cast, and he revealed it with his tweet "Looking forward to enjoying the process & the journey.I was part of background sound fx for the college students in #Aaythaezhuthu and so it's extra special to play a role in #PonniyinSelvan #longroads".
