Ponniyin Selvan is an upcoming epic historical drama which is an adaptation of the novel with the same name by renowned author Kalki Krishnamurthy. This monumental project will be directed by the ace director Mani Ratnam and will be released in 2 parts.
Over the years, Tamil Cinema has tried to cinematise this epic novel so many times. The late superstar and former chief minister MGR has also attempted to adapt 'Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan' as his second directorial venture but sadly the project was shelved.
Even Mani Ratnam has tried to get Ponniyin Selvan on floors with Thalapathy Vijay, Mahesh Babu, and Aishwarya Rai which got shelved due to financial reasons. But our legendary filmmaker has succeeded this time in creating this cinematic marvel. Ponniyin Selvan is the most expensive Indian film that is currently under production.
The motion picture features Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Sarath Kumar, Trisha, and Prakash Raj in the lead roles. It also comprises an ensemble cast. According to the latest reports, trustable sources revealed the technical crew of Ponniyin Selvan.
The Mozart of Madras A.R.Rahman scores music for this duology. Ravi Varman handles the cinematography of the film while Thotta Tharani takes care of the Art Direction, which are the two most important aspects of this cinematic wonder. Ace editor Sreekar Prasad is the editor of Ponniyin Selvan.
Mani Ratnam has written the screenplay for author Kalki's story. Dialogues were written by Jeyamohan. Lyricist Ilango Krishnan has penned 8 songs, Ace lyricist Kablian has written 2 songs, Kablian Vairamuthu and Venba Geethayan have written 1 song each in the Ponniyin Selvan franchise.
Three stunt choreographers namely Dhilip Subburayan, Kaecha Kampakdee, and Shyam Kaushal. Vikram Gaikwad takes care of make-up while Eka Lakhani takes charge as the costume designer. Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 is locked for a theatrical release in the summer of 2022.
