Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' to surpass the lifetime collection of Kamal Haasan's 'Vikram' - Hot update

Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shobitha Dhulipala and many others teamed up with Tamil cinema's superstar filmmaker Mani Ratnam for 'Ponniyin Selvan', Kollywood's biggest multi starrer. Produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, 'PS1' is one of the costliest Tamil films to be made.

'Ponniyin Selvan 1' grossed more than Rs 300 crores in the first week and now, the producers have officially announced that the movie has minted more than Rs 400 crores at the end of the second week. PS1 is all set to become an ALL-TIME GROSSER in Tamil Nadu by surpassing the previous best collections of Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram.

As per the reports, it is a rare phenomenon in Kollywood for two all-time blockbusters to release in the same year, that too in a span of four months. 'Ponniyin Selvan Part 2' is sure to break the records of the first installment in 2023. 'PS2' is expected to storm the cinemas in the Summer of next year. Mani Ratnam earlier confirmed that the sequel will be released in six to nine months after the first movie.

It is the adaptation of renowned author Kalki's eponymous novel of the same name. 'Ponniyin Selvan' is an epic historical fiction about the Chola dynasty. The franchise comprises two parts and the first part hit the silver screens on September 30 and opened to a shower of praises from audiences and critics. The movie had the biggest opening day collection of Tamil cinema in overseas and Tamil Nadu.
