Mani Ratnam's dream project 'Ponniyin Selvan' has seen many postponements since he first started pre-productions in 2016 with Vijay and Mahesh Babu in the lead but had to shelve it a year later due to business constraints. Now after the tremendous success of 'Chekka Chivantha Vaanam' the class director has revived the project with Jayam Ravi, Keerthy Suresh, Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachan, Mohan Babu and Amitabh Bachan.

So far 'Ponniyin Selvan' was planned as a joint production between Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions but it is reported that the latter has opted out due to the big budget. Mani Ratnam is said to have started fresh round of talks with Reliance Entertainment and official announcement will be made once the deal comes through.
