Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan' locks release date

'Ponniyin Selvan-I', coming with the caption 'Beginning of the Golden Era', has locked its release date. Jointly produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, the film will hit the screens in a spectacular manner on September 30 this year.
On Wednesday, the makers unveiled the first looks of five of its key actors: Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthik, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha Krishnan. The posters suggest that the film is going to be like a costume drama.
"The magnum opus is going to have another part. The duology is based on a Tamil-language classic novel about the life of Raja Raja Chozhan I. The novel is written by Kalki Krishnamurthy," the makers said in 2020.
The film also features Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Rahman, Sarathkumar and Prabhu. Music is by AR Rahman, cinematography by Ravi Varman, production design by Thotta Tharani and editing by A. Sreekhar Prasad. Story is by Kalki. Sham Kaushal is the action choreographer. Screenplay is by Mani Ratnam and Kumarvel.
The multi-lingual will be released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
