The much-anticipated 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' stormed the screens all over the world yesterday. Mani Ratnam's two-part magnum opus historical fantasy concludes with 'PS-2'. The franchise is made based on author Kalki's epic novel of the same name.

The first part of the film collected Rs 500 crore and became one of the all-time grosser in Tamil cinema. Now, we have information on the first-day box office figures of the sequel. As per the reports, PS-2 earned around Rs 65 to 60 crore worldwide on the release day. The movie is said to have collected Rs 35 crore all over India out of which 25 are from Tamil Nadu.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 will continue to dominate at the box office as this weekend is followed by a common holiday on Monday for Labour's Day, May 1. Also, there are no big releases for a few weeks from now. PS-2 is expected to surpass the overall collection of PS-1 after its lifetime run. The movie is jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.

The film has music by AR Rahman and DOP by Ravi Varman, editing by Sreekar Prasad and art direction by Thota Tharrani.
