Mani Ratnam started shooting his dream project 'Ponniyin Selvan' with the huge pan Indian starcast of Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi and others. The first schedule started in Thailand and major portions were canned and the team returned to India for the next when the COVID 19 situation halted production indefinitely.

We now have the information that Mani Ratnam's next movie could be the sequel to his worldwide blockbuster hit and critically acclaimed film 'Roja'. The film that dealt with the Hindu- Muslim divide and how love unites them is the project that put Mani Ratnam not only the National pedestal but also on the world stage. Another significant fact is that the film was produced by K. Balachander and marked the debut of A.R. Rahman.
