We all know that the master filmmaker Mani Ratnam fulfilled Tamil cinema's long-time dream by adopting the famous novel 'Ponniyin Selvan' into a two-part film series. The epic period saga, comprising the fictional tales of the Cholas with a huge star cast, emerged as a big industry hit.
Isai Puyal AR Rahman composed the original soundtrack and score for both parts of 'Ponniyin Selvan'. Oscar Nayagan's songs and BGM are one of the most acclaimed aspects of the movie. It is worth mentioning that ARR did research work for around 6 months in various places including Bali, and Indonesia to get the appropriate sounds of that time period.
Now, the latest is that Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman celebrated the success of 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' with the film's musical team. To appreciate the efforts behind the musical works of 'PS1', the director and composer gave a special treat to singers and musicians involved in the film's journey yesterday night.
ARR used almost 30 singers in the Ponniyin Selvan 1 album (six songs in five languages, 30 songs in total). The movie has reportedly grossed over Rs 480 crores worldwide and is expected to surpass the 500 crore mark shortly. It is still doing strong at the box office amid the Diwali releases and broke many box office records in Tamil Nadu and overseas.
