Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ OTT rights and release date details revealed!

Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is the next magnum opus film in Indian cinema following ‘Pushpa’, ‘RRR’ and ‘KGF 2’. The epic historical fiction period fantasy drama, adapted from author Kalki’s novel of the same name, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated upcoming Pan-Indian titles.

The shooting works for ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ were completed recently and the post-production is going on in full swing. ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ is scheduled to hit the silver screens worldwide on September 30. Now, the latest news is that Amazon Prime Video has bagged the OTT rights of Ponniyin Selvan part 1 and 2 for a whopping sum.

The streaming giant has signed the deal for Rs 125 crores and acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2′. The total budget for the two parts of the film is said to be Rs 500 crores, of which already 25% is recovered by the producer from the streaming rights sale. The franchise is bankrolled by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies & Lyca Productions.

With music composed by AR Rahman, the makers are planning to host the grand audio launch event of the movie soon in a foreign location. Ravi Varman has handled the visuals. ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ cast comprises Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Rahman, Ashwin, Vikram Prabhu and others.
