Director Bharathy's first movie Marumalarchi starring Mamooty revolved around the village and so is his next, Manasthan. It is the story between a father-son, where the latter sacrifices everything for the family's pride and honor. After Natpukkaga, Sarath Kumar and Vijayakumar team up Manasthan, that revolves around human relationships packed with emotions. Unfortunately, the movie had been in the cans for long, before its release  and it would in a sense create a lethargy among the audience.

Sarath Kumar who fits well in rustic characters, plays the elder son of village chieftain Vijayakumar in the movie. An adorable person, he wins the heart of one and all in the village. And, he looks at his best in stunt sequences. Meanwhile, Vijayakumar, gets 'too emotional' at many places in the movie.

Vadivelu provides relief with his humor. Acting opposite Sarath Kumar is Sakshi, who comes a cropper in the movie and she has nothing much to do. The movie is about a prosperous farmer Sarath Kumar. His brother Abbas, a college student, his mother Srividya and his father Vijayakumar live a happy life until his grandmother reveals the secret about Sarath Kumar's birth. This results in the hero leaving his family. The rest of the story is whether Sarath Kumar manages to reunite with his family and hold the hands of his beloved.

Debutant director Bharathi has tried to come out with a movie on father-son relationship, targetting the family audience. When fast-paced scripts  are the the order of the day in Tamil filmdom, the narration seems slow in Manasthan. Also in the cast are 'Kaakha' Radhakrishnan, Mansoor Ali Khan and Barathy.

Music by S A Rajkumar sounds very much familiar to his earlier tunes. Kicchas has handled cinematography well. Unfortunately, the delay in its release seems to have had an effect on the movie.
