This 2003 year Tamil film `Roja Kootam' remade in Kannada `Manasina Mathu' is on a ponderous pace and sharp editing for the film was most essential. The lengthy and inconsequential scenes what the director Ananthnaraju should have taken care and made it short.

For the eight years old subject the team of `Manasina Mathu' should have looked in to similar kind of films that have come in Kannada in the recent past. There are shades of a few films in Kannada with this theme.

The happy go lucky only son of the family Ajay (Ajay Rao) fails to take up the final examination. That is because he follows the auto in which his lady love Sahana (Aindrita Ray) is travelling. He wants to give her Rs.10 change for the Rs.50 note he received accidentally sitting in the driver seat of auto of his friend.

This chase obviously makes Ajay to fall in love with Sahana and he is supported by his mother. When Ajay's best friend Krishna is struggling to go to USA for further studies and employment he gets the support from Ajay parents. At this time Krishna disclose that he is in love with Sahana and ask his friend to take care. Shock and dismay at a time for Ajay he comes forward to help Sahana when she is forced to get married to an affluent person son.

The dash in the marriage hall and hullaballoo brings in more responsibilities for Ajay. He is left with no option to protect Sahana for a few months. Upset with this Ajay mother Saraswathi is not interested in talking to her son. This is an additional burden for Ajay. When his friend returns from USA he comes with an offer. He has traced a friend who has a sister. The brother and sister of two families agree for the match and Krishna is on this new tie up. He wants to reject Sahana offer. Krishna asks Ajay to marry Sahana. No says Ajay and he give a new solution of marrying his friend sister so that he can get marry to Sahana.

What happens in the Kalyana Mantapa is different tale if you have enough time you can watch in the theatres.

Ajay Rao is fit for this kind of role and his previous films too had similar emotions, tragedy for him. He is good in the emotional department. Aindrita Ray the cynosure of Kannada cinema industry is a nice selection for this kind of role. Thara is brilliant and Avinash is sufficient.

Neeladhri three songs are mellifluous and all of them are dream songs for Ajay Rao with Aindrita Ray. The camera work of MR Seenu is pleasant.

What is not pleasant is the length of the cinema. For decade old subject television would have been a right choice instead of big screen.

Scoring 6/10
