Man of Steel Review

It's a Bird, no it's a Plane, Its Superman! Well this age old charming dialogue is not there in this movie, and the age of heroes with a much darker and a subtle unknown side has come. If the Dark Knight series bore a sinister and a lethal batman who tamed his anger, went through his past to rediscover himself, not much of a difference is this movie. Well for starters if you had gone to this movie with an assumption to revive memoirs of Superman in Blue, well take that back. Zack Synder has rebooted the franchise seven years after Superman returns which did average enough. "Man of Steel" had the biggest ever release for an English film in Tamil Nadu with around 120 screens boasting the Tamil Version and 25 screens of English.

Two brawly heads in Hollywood known for their impeccable usage of CGI in an apt script join hands together and the result is a hard hitting bashful revelation of the comics that ruled American era for a while. Unlike the previous movie, this movie features the origin of Superman and how he makes his way to Earth. Born in a dying planet - Krypton, he is sent off by his parents to escape the wrath of the malicious commander General Zod. He lands in Kansas and is adopted by a farmer and his wife who name him as Clarke Kent.

Clarke does not leap out of the farm, transforming himself into Superman, in fact through the movie he is not even known as Superman, an outright idea of a sequel which might pave way for his good deeds to follow. Instead he is known as "Alien" as to the earthlings, he is just an outcast. A series of flashbacks reveal a young Clarke trying to recuperate the fact he is special with some mystic powers that make him less human like.

However his father convinces him to not lose faith and have patience to realize the potential when the day daunts upon. The Father-son senti story is either a sheer coincidence or you definitely compare with the ones in Batman Begins, as these are the plots which boost the sheer emotional content.

Elsewhere spirited reporter Lois Lane befriends Clarke in a bid to find out his real identity however conceals owing to his desperate requests and convincing reasons. Now his identity revealed, he is set to fight the Evil forces that threaten to loom over Earth and make it habitable for Kryptonians.

What follows is a brawl that goes on endlessly wondering if it's Climax already or not. If you are watching the Tamil version of this movie, the scene when Superman takes off brings about hoopla of loud guffaws and whistles among the hordes in theatres Rajini like.

The Climax Cacophony follows 50 minutes of thunderous CGI, which is a little lengthier than we can imagine, but Snyder's intentions are quite clear to profuse a round of extravaganza to establish Superman's forte. As usual the Good Vs Bad results in a favorable ending not after racking up the entire city and winning the hearts of many.

Out of so many changes the makers have done in this movie, the stand apart one would be the costume makeover. One would surely imagine Superman to be a Blue hulky figure with a red cape and a Yellow "S", however this time it's more of a hushed inky blue and a red cape that oozes an oomphy look losing the usual traditional red bright underwear.

Performance wise Henry's thick British accent does seem a little haywire for an iconic hero of America, however he is fit and perfectly altered for Superman and his alter ego Clarke Kent. He does not have the luxury of charms however shows the grits of seething anger enough to demolish an army.  Amy Adams as Lois Lane uses all her experience to charm and does come out pretty neat. Zack's 300 and watchmen gave the critics a rough time to come up with something off the track and pretty much this movie gave them a tough time as well.

Be it an overdose of action or loud metal brawling thudding sequences, we in India love these movies as we worship heroism at its best. Man of Steel does not have Superman stopping a speeding train nor saving an old woman fall off 80 feet, however the usual "Save the World" type,

Verdict :  Superman fan or not, go for it.
