A 38-year-old man named Sanoj Kulangara has on Friday committed suicide after failing to find his dose of liquor in Kerala's Thrissur district. Like in other parts of India, Kerala's liquor shops have been shut down due to the ongoing nation-wide lockdown.
Following the ban on the sale of liquor in Kerala recently, the deceased man tried hard to get liquor. Being a drunkard, he started developing withdrawal symptoms, causing worry in his family members.
The police see it as a case of "unnatural death".
So far, just in Thiruvananthapuram, four men have been admitted to hospitals due to withdrawal symptoms. Kerala, a survey says, has about 16 lakh alcoholics. They are now at the risk of developing withdrawal symptoms.
