Though Mammootty's Playhouse had been a sleeping partner in the production of many Malayalam films, their official first film as a producer will happen in 2011. Playhouse will officially produce 'Mathilukalkkappuram' which will be a sequel to Adoor Gopalakrishnan's 'Mathilukal'. The movie will have the megastar once again playing the award winning role of Basheer while Nayantara will come up as Narayani, whose audio was only heard in the original.

‘Mathilukalkkappuram’ is expected to go for an official launch by the first of March. Top technicians from India including Ravi K Chandran and Resul Pookkutty will work in the technical departments of the movie. Debutante director Prasad will call the shots of the movie which will start off from where Adoor has ended in 'Mathilukal'.
