The rumour mill is abuzz with the shocking news that Mammootty publically insulted television actors and Asianet channel during the Asianet Television Award function held at Angamaly. According to reports, Mammootty was the chief guest at the function and he openly expressed his displeasure at the way in which awards are selected.

Mammootty alleged that the awards are not fixed according to merit and that Asianet follows a strategy to satisfy everyone working for their channel. While announcing the Best Actor award, it is reported that he stressed the word 'Best' in a derogatory manner. After awarding Kishore Sathya as Best Actor for his performance in the seriel 'Karuthamuthu', he left the venue. Other cine artistes including Kavya Madhavan, Bhama, Dileep et al were present at the function.
